Objective
Being focused on the particular class of proteins the ultimate integration of raw data, visual tool and bioinformatics algorithms was achieved. The database thoroughly represents the nomenclature of the cytochromes P450, and allows the user to navigate thought the data effectively, selecting the samples, querying and reporting any information.

Data Scope
Each entity - the form of cyotchrome P450 - was characterized via the attributes listed below:
  • nomenclature
  • structure (amino acid sequence, DNA sequence, 3D structure, accession numbers)
  • function (substrate, reaction, inducer, inhibitor)

Attributes are linked to the proper literature references (PubMed). 


Embedded Bioinformatics
Exploiting the power of the computer clusters the routine bioinformatics processing was performed and the results were stored to the database. These results are: 3D models, multiple alignments, pairwise alignments, BLAST runs (producing the closest neighbors), motifs: (conserved sites of alignment, structurally conserved regions, secondary structure elements, substrate recognition sites). Residing on the pre-calculated data the special visualization tools were provided, e.g. alignment viewer. At last, the pre-calculated results are used to produce the phylogenetic trees and structural-functional maps.
